FAQs

What is Spiritual Direction?

All of our journeys are similar. All of our journeys are unique. While you are the only person who has ever traveled on your road, there is familiar terrain that we all have to sojourn. Having a companion traveling with you on that path can help you to recognize landmarks to guide you and pitfalls to avoid along the way. As Richard Foster says, "Spiritual Direction involves a process through which one person helps another understand what God is doing and saying." A Christian spiritual director doesn't solve problems like a counselor, or set goals like a life coach. A spiritual director is a trained listener who will accompany you as you share about your spiritual journey, helping you to notice God’s presence and activity along the way. In this world full of noise and distractions a spiritual director will help you create space to hear and discern the gentle whisper of God in your life.

How do I know if spiritual direction is for me?

Do you want to grow in your spiritual journey? Do you want to hear God's voice? Do you want more space free from distraction? Are you feeling spiritually restless? Are you navigating a time of transition? Are you mourning a loss? Are you thirsty for more of God? Are you wandering in the wilderness? Are you dancing on the mountain top? Are you wondering what God has next for you? Are you curious what spiritual direction is all about? If you answered "Yes" to any or all of those questions perhaps God is inviting you to explore spiritual direction.

Is there a cost?

Spending sacred time with the LORD is always a gift for me, as I pray it will be for you. I invite you to give as you feel led. Any financial gift you give is appreciated. Please do not let financial concerns hold you back from scheduling a session.

What can I expect from a session?

Spiritual direction sessions are usually scheduled once a month and last approximately 50-60 minutes. One of my favorite aspects of spiritual direction is that neither the director or the directee set the agenda. We are led together by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit sets the agenda. When we meet you will have opportunities for silence, for reflection, for questions, and response. Meetings can take place in person or through tele-direction.

What are others saying?

"I want to tell you that your generous way of listening allowed space for me to process my recent trials without anxiety. You helped me to ask myself and God the right questions. You taught me to slow down, to center myself on Christ, and to trust God with honest conversation in prayer. Because of your spiritual direction, I understand myself, my situation, and the Lord better. My faith has increased through our meditation and discussion. Thank you!" - Chandler
